England squad and fixtures: Nations League 2026/27

Thomas Tuchel named a 27-man England squad on Friday 18 September 2026 for the four-game window that opened the Three Lions’ 2026-27 UEFA Nations League campaign, the FA’s website reported. The window runs from 21 September to 6 October 2026 and covers matches against Spain at Wembley, Czechia away and then at home, and Croatia away. England lost the opener 3-2 to Spain at Wembley on Saturday 26 September 2026. Lamine Yamal put Spain ahead inside two minutes, but Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored two goals in four minutes late in the first half to send England in 2-1 up at half-time, before Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal scored second-half goals to win it for Spain, the FA’s match centre showed.

The squad

Five of the 27 players withdrew on Monday 21 September 2026: Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice. James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White were called up, the FA’s website said, which leaves the 24 players listed below. The original selection brought Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lewis Hall, Rio Ngumoha, Jarrad Branthwaite, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Alex Scott back into the squad, and included Trent Alexander-Arnold alongside his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham.

The FA has published the dates and UK kick-off times of all six of England’s League A, Group 3 matches, including the two in November. For the last game it names the host country, Spain, but not a stadium.

The Croatia match in Rijeka is scheduled to be played behind closed doors under a UEFA sanction, the FA’s website said.

England’s group and what is at stake

England play in League A, Group 3 of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League, alongside Spain, Croatia and Czechia, the FA’s website said of the draw made in Brussels in February 2026. England and Croatia also met in the group stage of the World Cup in June.

League A has 16 teams split into four groups of four, the FA’s website said. England play six group matches, home and away against each opponent, between September and November 2026.

The winner and runner-up of each League A group advance to two-legged, home-and-away quarter-finals in March 2027. The four quarter-final winners then contest the finals in June 2027, a knockout stage of semi-finals, a third-place play-off and a final. Portugal are the defending champions, having won the 2025 finals, the FA’s website said.

England finished third at the 2026 World Cup, reaching the semi-finals before beating France 6-4 in the bronze medal match in Miami, the FA’s website reported. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick in the game and told the FA’s website it was about “giving the country the best finish in the World Cup for 60 years.” Sky Sports separately reported the same 6-4 scoreline and called it England’s best World Cup finish since 1966.
