Manchester United are increasingly confident that Bruno Fernandes will turn down interest from the Saudi Pro League and remain as captain at Old Trafford this summer, Sky Sports reported on WednesdayT2 - Sky Sports.

The thirty-year-old midfielder had been the subject of significant Saudi attention, with Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr both exploring a move for the United captain during the current window. Fernandes had earlier in the season fuelled speculation when he admitted he would consider leaving if the club decided to cash in, but United’s position has stiffened in recent weeks. The club are understood to view Fernandes as central to Ruben Amorim’s plans and have no intention of entertaining offers at this stage.

Sky Sports’ report, carried as part of the daily paper-talk round-up, noted that United’s confidence has grown after Fernandes himself gave encouraging signals about his commitment during end-of-season conversations with the coaching staff. No formal approach has been made by any Saudi club, and United have not placed a valuation on the playmaker.

Fernandes joined United from Sporting CP in January 2020 for a fee of around £47m and has made over 270 appearances for the club, scoring 89 goals. He signed a contract extension in 2022 that runs until 2027, with an option for a further year.

The situation remains fluid until the window closes, and United’s stance could shift if an extraordinary offer arrives. For now, the club expect Fernandes to report for pre-season training in July.
